Anyone can list what they spent. The hard part is the money with a schedule attached: what a loan actually costs you, what a deposit is worth today, who has not paid you back. That is Pro.

How buying works

Four steps, and none of them is an account.

Pay once

Card or the usual local methods, handled by our payment provider. There is nothing to ship, so no address is asked for.

Get your key

It is emailed to the address you paid from, usually within a few minutes and always within one business day.

Activate

Paste the key into Settings, under Licence, and press Activate. Pro unlocks straight away.

Carry on offline

Your records never need a connection. Pro checks its licence about once a week, and picks up where it left off if you have been away.

Questions

The things worth asking first.

Is this really a one-time payment?
Yes. You pay once and the licence does not expire. Pro does check its licence over the internet about once a week; that check is not a renewal and costs nothing. Updates are included and there is no second payment for them. There is no subscription, so there is nothing to cancel. If a cloud sync tier is ever built it would be separate and optional, and it would not change what you already bought.
What happens to my records if I never buy Pro?
Nothing is taken away and nothing stops working. Your accounts, transactions and monthly view stay yours, and backup and export are never withheld at any tier, because leaving must always be possible. What you will not have is the answer to the questions Pro exists for: what this loan really costs, what that deposit is worth today, who still owes you money.
How many computers does one key cover?
Three at a time. If you replace a computer, deactivate it from Settings to free the seat, or write to us and we will free it for you.
Can I get my money back?
Within 7 days of buying, yes, in full and without giving a reason. Write to ledger@whyitcosts.com from the address the key was issued to. A refunded key stops working, Ledger carries on as the free version, and everything you entered stays on your computer. The full terms are on the refunds page.
What if my computer is offline for a long time?
Pro keeps working for a week without a check. If a week passes with no successful check, the Pro tools pause until the next one. Nothing is deleted: everything you entered stays visible and exportable, and accounts, transactions, the monthly overview, CSV export and backup keep working as normal. Pro comes back on its own the next time the app can check in.
Do you take my financial data when I pay?
No. Buying is completely separate from the app. Your transactions, balances, loans and investments never leave your computer, before or after you pay. We never see your card details either; those go to the payment provider. The privacy page lists exactly what the app sends and what we keep.
Can I try Pro before paying?
Download the free version and put a real month into it. That tells you whether you trust Ledger with your money records, which is the part worth testing. The Pro tools are the reason to pay, so buy Pro when you actually have a loan, a deposit or a debt to track, and the 7-day refund is there if it turns out not to fit.
